‘The Painters LP’ is a testament to the veracity of its name; a synesthetic aural canvas that sees disparate styles combine and boundaries dissolve. The opener, “SUN NEVER SETS,” is a burst of speaker-tearing guitar solos, while the acoustic “KITCHEN TILES” emits campfire-like warmth. “SOMEWHERE'' morphs from a humble folk serenade into an acid-coated blend of dewey field recordings, tropical slide guitar, and valium saxophone before launching into the synth-laden psychedelic prom-dance anthem “WAIT FOR YOU”. Bourque’s lyrics, however, form a through-line, weaving an existential narrative that questions the meaning of love, friendship, and truth; “BACKIN’ UP,” sees the band locked into a hypnotic trance, while offering quiet musings on the ties that bind us. “ROLLING THUNDER” bookends the album with blown-out guitar leads, three-part harmonies, and lyrics that ask questions of loyalty, presence, and honesty.
“Like Jesus' face on your morning toast or an alien ship in your backyard, The Painters LP is so rare a find you'd think it only theoretically possible. Rendered from a sonic palette assembled outside of time, the album is an interstellar road trip companion for when those light years just keep passing you by. Like that first breath inside after a no-suit spacewalk, their yearning unfolds those creases in your heart you’d given up on, painting an idiosyncratic debut of impossible colors so unreasonably good, it’d be embarrassing to miss…”
