Lyrically, the song offers an earnest reflection on the fragility of the ties of friendship and the importance of communication and vulnerability. The song is carried by morphing violins, recorded through a vintage amp with cranked tremolo, creating an atmosphere that marries the soft edge of Yo La Tengo with dissonance worthy of John Cale.
